(1) BREATHING

The first thing we do in the Shoulder Pain Solved program is some breathing exercises and training, so we can start to relax the muscles in and around the shoulders. When we have pain and injury in the shoulders, our muscles tend to tighten up and stay tightened. This is one of the body’s defense mechanisms - it is keeping the muscles on alert for additional injury, strain or stress. We want to loosen and relax these muscles, so we can start to get some pain relief now. And, relaxed muscles are much easier to heal and strengthen!

(2) POSTURE

Next, we’ll look at posture. The fact is that most of us keep our bodies in poor posture for hours and hours every day, not realizing that this applies significant stress and strain to our shoulders and neck, which contributes to pain and injury. In the program, we’ll learn about healthy posture and do some exercises that will help us “train in” better posture, so we can take that stress and strain off of our shoulders, and stop creating as much pain.

(3) SELF-MASSAGE

We’ll also do some self-massage to ease and relax those muscles that are guarding the shoulders against further pain and injury. This will help reduce your current pain, stop creating more new pain, and open the door for lengthening, strengthening and healing the muscles and tendons in and around your shoulders.

(4) MOBILITY

Next, we’ll work on mobility, and improving the three different planes of movement in your mid-back. Poor mobility or movement in the mid-back forces the shoulders to work harder and pick up the slack, adding stress and strain to the shoulders, which ultimately causes pain and injury. When we increase the movement in the mid-back, the shoulders become better protected, and will experience less stress and strain, leading to less pain.

(5) STATIC STRETCHING

When we experience pain in our shoulders, our muscles there have usually tightened up and shortened up, and in the program we’ll use static stretching to loosen and lengthen those muscles in order to help the shoulder recover.

(6) FASCIAL STRETCHING

Fascia is a sheet of tissues that cover the muscles in our shoulders. When the fascia is healthy, it is soft and pliable. But, when injury occurs or the shoulders are under-exercised, the fascia can bind up, causing a condition called fascial binding, which shortens the muscles in the shoulders, causes deep tissue problems, and ultimately, pain and injury. We use fascial stretching in the program to “unbind” the fascia, loosen the muscles, and relieve your pain.

(7) VERTICAL HANGING

Over time, gravity and poor posture shorten the ligaments in our shoulders, causing pain and tightness. We use simple vertical hanging exercises in the program - that you can do in any doorway in your house, to stretch and loosen the ligaments in your shoulder, which ends up reshaping the shoulder, and removing the pain!

In the program, we will use isometric stretches and exercises to strengthen the deep muscles in the shoulders, and loosen up the shoulder joint.
